As brilliant and thrilling as July 4th fireworks are, they pale in comparison to natural fireworks, perhaps because the natural ones are a surprise every time! As for our own local fireflies, in Urbana, they peaked early this year - mid June - and by the 4th of July, were definitely on the decline. Ah well, more lovely for their ephemerality.
